Volunteer for the River Stour Trust
Spring is nearly here and members of the public will soon be out and about in the beautiful Stour valley and Constable country, The River Stour Trust, run almost entirely by volunteers, came into being over forty years ago when the then Anglian Water Authority attempted to remove navigation rights. The Trust works to keep the river open for all sorts of river craft, operates private charters, and runs short boat trips almost every day, weather permitting, which are thoroughly enjoyed by both the public and our own members.
We welcome new members, volunteers and potential skippers, both male and female - anyone with a love of the countryside and the great outdoors and who likes meeting new people. Whilst useful, previous boating experience is not essential. A calm and confident manner and an outgoing personality are all that is needed.
If you like the idea of becoming a skipper, taking people out on trips or helping out in any way, then please get in touch. Our skipper training programme begins in the spring each year and on completion and assessment, you will be qualified as an Inland Waterways accredited skipper. We would ensure you felt totally at ease before operating boats yourself. After training you are free to give as much or as little time as you would like.
